General Council Meeting and London Graduate Reception held at The Caledonian Club, London on Friday 18 November 2011

Around one hundred graduates gathered at the Caledonian Club in London on Friday 18 November for a meeting of the University’s General Council and a London Graduate Reception.

Graduates from across the decades, with graduation dates spanning 68 years from 1943 to 2011, were warmly welcomed by the Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell, CBE QC MP, Chancellor of the University and President of the General Council. The Conveners of the Business and Alumnus Association Committees, Martyn Strachan and Kathleen Patrick, presented reports from their respective committees. Stephen Magee, Vice-Principal (External Relations) and Registrar to the General Council, gave the University address and Professor John Haldane, Director of the Centre for Ethics, Philosophy and Public Affairs, delivered an illustrated talk on understanding the complex ethical dilemmas faced by policy-makers in government, business and public life.

There was lively and good-humoured interaction with the audience during the meeting, with the reception afterwards providing an added opportunity to mingle with old friends and new and to discover more about recent developments at the University and to discuss the current challenges it faces.
