Make the 600th anniversary the event you want to remember

Excited about the University’s 600th Anniversary and want to be part of the celebrations? Then we want you to be a 600th Anniversary ambassador and to help define what this historic milestone means.

Leaping student

An anniversary is a time to ask the question “who are we?” and “what do we want to celebrate”?  This is the greatest opportunity of our lifetime to bring people together to answer these questions – you can help make sure the people who make the St Andrews community special for you are invited, and decide how best to mark out what you are most proud of about being a part of the University’s on-going story.

For centuries St Andrews has been a gathering place for people with big ideas. Now you can continue that tradition by organising your own gathering.

We are already developing a programme of events aimed at bringing people together in many ways that express some of the shared traditions and values that bind us together. This is your chance to make sure that our events programme reflects you – your ideas, interests and values. Get creative, make new friends, share the things that inspire you, and help set the path for the future.

The events leading up to our finale on St Andrews Day 2013 will leave a lasting legacy. If you want to help shape that legacy then we will support you every step of the way – with advice on planning your event, inviting guests, decorating your venue and with help organising publicity.

Ideas and suggestions

Think about what excites you most about the University’s life and work: teaching, research, student activities, outreach, economic, cultural and community development, and sustainability.

Perhaps you want to set a challenge – a marathon.

Celebrate St Andrews as a centre of ideas – with a debate, conference, or lecture.

Celebrate the visual aspects of the place, and its history at the forefront of photography – with an exhibition, film, or performance.

Every good party needs music – perhaps you want to choose the playlist by organising a concert, a ceilidh, or a collaboration.

You could organise something as simple as a walk… the possibilities are endless.
