Prof. Gerry Humphris

  Professor Gerry Humphris

Gerry is a member of the Bute Medical School and is interested in the psychological aspects of oral health including dental phobia, chronic facial pain and oral cancer. He has completed a controlled trial of a new intervention specifically designed for patients following treatment of orofacial cancer.

A second area of interest is the Scottish Government's Oral Health Strategy for Scotland and their goal in improving the oral health of young children from areas of deprivation through the Childsmile project.

Gerry Humphris is one of a team of researchers from Social Dimensions of Health that comprise the Scottish Clinical Interactions Project (SCIP). This project seeks to use recent developments in information technology to establish a unique longitudinal dataset of routine digitally audio-recorded consultations within primary care. This would provide one of the largest and most detailed insights into real world medical consultations in the world.
