Absence from Examinations/Notification of circumstances affecting exam performance

Please read carefully the university’s guidelines on Circumstances Affecting Academic Performance and Absence from Examinations.

Students are reminded that it is their responsibility to bring to the attention of their examiners any evidence of exceptional circumstances (personal, medical or otherwise) that may affect or have affected their academic performance.

Please note that failure to notify circumstances affecting academic performance in advance of the final determination of grades may affect your ability subsequently to submit an academic appeal.

If you are unable to sit an examination during one of the main diets (January, May or
Reassessment in August/September) due to illness or other unavoidable reason you should notify the Examinations Office as soon as possible by telephoning (01334) 462124 or 462528. This should then be followed up by the completion of the Self-Certificate of Absence form.

As soon as you are well enough thereafter you should contact the Examinations Officer in the appropriate School(s) to make arrangements for an alternative or deferred assessment to be completed at the earliest opportunity.
